HYPETV Review
Okay, so I just saw the trailer for Oscar Shaw, and girl, we need to talk! R. Ellis Frazier, Michael Jai White, Tyrese Gibson – that’s a lineup that screams action flick, right? And coming out in 2026, it gives us something to look forward to. The whole "retired cop seeking vengeance for a lost friend" trope is classic, and I'm a sucker for a good redemption story, especially when it involves someone cleaning up the streets they once protected. It's got that gritty, old-school crime thriller vibe, which I absolutely adore.
Now, let's be real, a 6.1 rating is a little... concerning. But sometimes those hidden gems are just misunderstood, you know? I'm hoping Frazier brings some serious style to this. With Michael Jai White leading, you know the fight choreography is gonna be top-notch – he just exudes that quiet power. And Tyrese Gibson? He can bring that emotional weight, that raw anger of someone who's lost everything. The synopsis hints at a "perilous quest," which means we're in for some intense stakes and hopefully some genuinely surprising twists. I'm imagining some really dark, atmospheric cinematography, playing into the detective's haunted past.
However, and here's where my critic hat comes on, the 93-minute runtime for an action-crime-thriller with such a heavy premise could be a double-edged sword. It could mean tight, relentless pacing, which would be amazing. Or, it could mean some character development gets rushed, or the emotional impact of his friend's death doesn't quite land as hard as it should. We've seen this kind of story before, so the real challenge is going to be making it feel fresh and impactful. Can Frazier elevate the material beyond just another revenge flick? That's the million-dollar question. But honestly, for the cast alone, I'm already clearing my schedule. I'm cautiously optimistic this could be a fun, albeit imperfect, ride.
